KEYNOTE Dr. Virend Somers-Mayo Clinic

Dr. Somers is a professor of medicine and consultant in the Division of Cardiovasular Disease and Nephrology and Hypertension at Mayo Clinic. He is also a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic. He is a world recognized expert in sleep apnea and the phsyiology of sleep and cardiac disease and was a previous keynote speaker in 2015.


KEYNOTE Dr. Fred Richardson

Dr. Richardson is Associate Attending Physician and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois and University of Illinois Medical Center, UIC College of Medicine. A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Richardson is Founder and Medical Director of Dr. Richardson’s Neighborhood Family Practice in Oak Park, Illinois for the past... 25 years. He is on the active admitting medical staffs of University of Illinois Medical Center and Rush-University Medical Center in Chicago for the past 25 years.

Dr. Richardson has taught on the national level co-lecturing with the former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. David Satcher, on disparities in healthcare. Dr. Richardson has served as principal investigator on grants supported by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Department of Health and Human Services. He has served as a guest surveyor for the Liason Committee on Medical Education. Dr. Richardson was featured in the American Academy of Family Physicians videotape "Family Practice...A Specialty for Our Time" designed for use in the American Academy of Family Physician's 50th Anniversary observance and also in the Public Broadcasting System special "The Family Doctor...At the Heart of Medicine" , one of four family physicians highlighted nationally.

Dr. Richardson was featured in the Chicago Tribune and nationally on the Today Show with Bob Dotson in 2014-2015 for his work treating the underserved elderly in Chicago's toughest neighborhoods with home visits and educating future generations of underrepresented minority medical students for the past 25 years. He was recently featured on the Steve Harvey Show where he was honored as a Harvey's Hero for his work in the community and with minority medical education. He was a guest speaker for We Day Illinois 2015 giving a motivational speech to over 20,000 youth at the Allstate Arena on April 30, 2015.


Dr. Mehgna Mansukani-Mayo Clinic

Dr. Mansukhani is a Consultant in Sleep Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. She was the Medical director of the Willmar Medical Services Sleep Laboratory in Willmar, MN and the ACMC Marshall Sleep Lab in Marshall, MN between 2011-2015. She was a speaker at the previous ARCS conferences in 2013 and 2014.


Dr. Bhanu Kolla-Mayo Clinic

Dr. Kolla is an  Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN and consultant at Mayo Clinic, Center for Sleep Medicine. He was a speaker at previous ARCS Conference in 2013.


Dr. Septimiu Murgu-University of Chicago

Dr. Murgu is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Co-Director of Bronchoscopy Unit at the University of Chicago. He provides care for patients with lung cancer, central airway disorders, including tracheomalacia (softening of the trachea), excessive dynamic airway collapse and tracheal stenosis. He specializes in interventional pulmonology, using minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat problems of the respiratory system.

In his research, Dr. Murgu uses novel imaging technology to better understand airflow dynamics and the scientific characteristics of malignant and benign pulmonary diseases. Through this research, he hopes to improve treatment and follow up protocols for patients with central airway disorders, including lung cancer.

Dr. Murgu has published numerous original scientific articles and authored a textbook on bronchoscopy. An accomplished teacher and speaker, he contributes to development and implementation of a new curriculum for bronchoscopy-related education, and is frequently invited to present his work at national and international conferences.

In addition, Dr. Murgu has been named one of "America's Top Doctors" by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.


Hari PR Bandla, M.D., MRCP., FCCP, FAAP-University of Chicago

Dr. Bandla is currently the Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics as well as Section Chief in the Division of Pediatric Sleep Medicine at University of Chicago.

Hari Bandla, MD is internationally recognized as an expert in pediatric sleep medicine. He specializes in the comprehensive management of sleep disorders in children and infants. Dr. Bandla provides excellent care for children who have sleep apnea. He has a special interest in the treatment of children needing home ventilation. Also an active physician scientist, Dr. Bandla's research has focused on pediatric sleep disorders associated with other health conditions, including obesity, cystic fibrosis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dr. Bandla completed advance training in pediatrics with the Royal College of Physicians in London. He was one of few pediatricians worldwide selected for this esteemed opportunity. He has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the education and development of residents, fellows and students in pediatric sleep medicine. In addition to teaching and mentoring, he has developed learning modules, test items and other educational materials. Dr. Bandla is also highly respected among his peers. He frequently delivers lectures and presentations on pediatric sleep disorders at local, regional, national and international meetings. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer or editorial board member for several medical journals, including ThoraxChestPediatric Pulmonology and theJ ournal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.


Dr. Gaurav Dagar-Medical College of Wisconsin

Dr. Dagar is currently the Assistant Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has developed an advanced bronchoscopy and procedure program for Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin as well as a cancer center clinic to assist with management of pulmonary issues in cancer patients. He is preceptor for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows and has participated in setting up an emergency response team of intensivists and hospitals for Ebola and other infectious emergencies. Dr. Dagar is board certified in Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Pulmonary Disease.


Dr. Rizan Hajal-Pulmonary and Sleep Consultants

Rizan Hajal, MD, FCCP, is American Board Certified in Internal Medcine, Pulmonary Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He received his medical degree from Saint-Joseph University School of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his internship and residency in Internal  Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center at the University of New York Stony Brook. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Columbia University St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, NY. He has been in private practice since 2005 at Pulmonary and Sleep Consultants in Sioux Falls, SD. 

Dr. Hajal has been actively involved in sleep medicine since 1999, taking part in more than 20,000 sleep studies. With his double board certification from the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine Subspecialty Board in Sleep Medicine, Dr. Hajal has achieved one of the highest distinctions among sleep specialists.

Jennifer James, RPSGT, RST, PHR- Overland Park Regional Medical CenterMs. James is the Managing Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, KS. Jennifer has over 20 years of clinical sleep medicine experience. She is a Registered Polysomnography Technologist and a member of the BRPT. She currently is a member of the board of directors for the Kansas Association of Sleep Professionals (KASP). She has worked in a number of settings including hospital based and independently owned Sleep Centers. She has functioned in a variety of roles in the sleep field including: conducting polysomnography studies, clinical sleep training, developing an A-STEP program, providing accreditation oversight, DME, marketing and sales. She has hired and/or trained over 75 sleep technologists, most of whom went on to become registered and have successful careers in the field. She is a founding member of Sleep Review Magazine’s editorial advisory board. She has written several articles about sleep and the sleep management field including: an original case study about PLMS, successful mentorship of the sleep technologist, and achieving CPAP compliance.

Dr. Lisa Viola-Neurology Associates

Lisa Viola D.O. is a well-respected and accomplished neurologist, passionate about her work and the premier neurological care that her team provides to patients. Dr. Viola completed her training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, after which she fulfilled a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular diseases, specializing in EMG training. She is board certified in three specialties which include neurology, clinical neurophysiology and electrodiagnostic medicine.


Scott Barth, RRT, RPSGT-ResMed

Mr. Barth has been in the role of ResMed clinical specialist for the upper Midwest for the past two years. Prior to working for ResMed Scott worked as an RRT for 10 +years, also worked in the sleep medicine for 10 +years.
